Ex Mente is participating with the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Pretoria (UP) in research and development activities. The current collaboration is in the form of a THRIP project being managed and co-ordinated by UP.
The project, named Piquant, focuses on the quantification of pyrometallurgical process steps and overall processes based on fundamental process understanding. This understanding is developed and improved through interaction with operational processes, laboratory experimental work, mathematical process modelling, and by working with basic data (e.g. thermochemical data). The Piquant project is a collaborative effort between the University of Pretoria and various industrial partners and is partially funded through the THRIP program of the South African Department of Trade and Industry.
Ex Mente contributes its metallurgical process modelling expertise to the project to combine with the world-class metallurgical engineering expertise and research facilities of UP.
